Once upon a time…
in a castle far away across the sea, lived a little girl, who was cautious and curious and loved flowers.
Sometimes the truth is hard to believe but that doesn’t make it any less true. And what is actually true … can make all the difference.
Welcome!
I’m Jennifer.
When my family returned to the States, after living for two years in Dundas Castle (the one in the picture above) in Scotland (true story that I promise to share if we end up working together), I told my second grade class that I was a princess (because…obviously…what else makes a person a princess besides living in a castle). Reader … they didn’t believe me.
It took me decades before I realized that actually, I was right, but in a much deeper way…
More than being a pastor’s wife or therapist or daughter, mother, sister… I am a daughter of the Most High King. And, that reality has made all the difference.
I specialize in helping women to reconnect with themselves and their truest story. Using the brain’s natural process of memory reconsolidation, I integrate brain based and somatic therapies, like Music, Art, Play, Trauma Informed Hypnosis, and Brainspotting within a faith-based perspective to help clients reshape their stories to support wholeness and growth.
C.S. Lewis once said of the human condition, “We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea.”
What if the truth is actually more like a holiday by the sea?
I’d love to help you discover your truest story.
How I work:
At the core of my approach to healing is a belief that God has designed us for wholeness & joy.
My approach is…
-
I am committed to being with you in this process. As a trauma survivor, I have done a lot of my own personal healing work and know what the process feels like from the inside out. Every therapy and coaching training that I have done, I have also experienced. And, I truly care deeply. If I agree to work with you, I am agreeing to be fully with you and for you.
-
We have all experienced times that our environment/circumstances/a painful event overwhelmed our current capacities to cope. This is trauma. Because trauma is less about the details of what happens to a person and more about how it affects the nervous system, talking alone is not sufficient and certain kinds of talking can actually be damaging.
Trauma requires a specialized approach to heal. You can learn more about some of the ways that I often work under my Method pages. I have dedicated my career to learning how to do this well and continue to learn and practice new methods and ways of offering my clients the best opportunity for their highest healing.
-
Often, trauma makes hope feel almost impossible. In fact, it can even feel unsafe to believe that anything might change. And yet, hope is necessary for true healing to take place. This is one benefits of working with a trained trauma healer. Because of the magic of co-regulation, you can, in a sense, borrow my hope for you until you can feel it for yourself. My hope is grounded and true; I will never lie to you.
-
Many of my clients are Christians and many are also struggling with their faith. No matter where you are on your faith journey, I will honor that place and create space for you to engage in whatever ways feel most helpful for you.
-
Intensives allow for the necessary space and time to really get to the true root of the issue. One of the most important things for healing trauma is an unhurried pace. With intensives we have the ability to truly follow what comes up in the moment in a creative and curious way, eliminating the necessary stop and start of regular weekly sessions.
However we are working together, whether in an intensive or in a coaching relationship, my goal is to create an atmosphere of openness and space that truly feels safe so you can safely engage in the work your nervous system most needs.
-
I work at the intersection of therapy, coaching, and spiritual formation.
I practice as a fellow traveler, in life together with you and figuring it out together as we go. While I do have the benefit of thousands of hours of practice and learning in the healing of trauma that I will share with you as it is helpful, you are the expert on your own experience and anything I suggest or share is just that, a suggestion. You can take it or leave it. Trauma healing is more of an art than a science and while guided by studies, practice, and much research, each person is unique and must be honored as such.
