Do you remember what you imagined when you and your husband began dreaming of ministry together? Maybe it was the anticipation of building a life devoted to growing God’s kingdom, or the adventure of not knowing exactly how things would work out but trusting in His provision, the fun of welcoming people into your cozy home for Bible studies and meals together. Or, you may have married into ministry, with clear eyes and a full heart, eager to join your husband in his work, to support his efforts with your unique gifts. Or, perhaps you imagined something else entirely. I’m guessing, however, that it didn’t look like you, depleted to the point of not even knowing who you are, stressed and overwhelmed and avoiding church events. And occasionally, in moments of desperation, researching new jobs for your husband, considering attending a different church icognito, or maybe even … in your darkest moments … thoughts of burning the church down?
We are people of story, born into story, shaped by story, creating meaning through story. Stories make up who we are.
But sometimes in life, an event or set of circumstances arise that doesn’t fit within our current story-making abilities. We might not have the resources or categories needed to integrate it into our current understanding of the world. Without a story to make sense of an experience, we can feel unsafe and become stuck and unable to move forward in life. We can become disconnected from others and trapped inside ourselves.
Maya Angelou famously said, “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story within you.” I help people access those trapped stories, integrate them into the whole, and create a new and truer story. When we have a coherent story we can begin to live again.

Combining expertise as a trauma specialist and relationship therapist to decades of experience in church leadership, my current work focuses on the post-traumatic growth and wellbeing of women in the church.
I am passionate about God’s amazing design for healing trauma and integrate a variety of therapeutic methods that facilitate our brain’s natural capacity for memory reconsolidation, to help clients transform their relationships (with God, themselves, church, and others), rediscovering authentic joy and a truer story.
I live in the suburbs of Chicago with my pastor husband, our dog Emmi, and occasionally our sons (3 young men who are making their way in the world and kindly grace us with their presence now and then).
